Thursday the 30th of August - Sydney

Harbour bridge at night

So... Yesterday we moved into our new appartment!
It's a great place: We have our own fridge, table and closets, and our flatmates are the best! They are one big family, and I already feel like I'm a part of it!
cockroach! Nice....

The only problem are the cockroaches! 10 minutes after we arrived, we found a cockroach crawling on the door! One of our flatmates was so kind to take it out for us and they all assured us that it wasn't that normal. Then we found one more... then another one!

Australia: Where you buy your sandals
 in machines! xD

Job interview at Luna Park!

Today we spoke to both the company that is responsible for the apartment, they would call us later and make an appointment for some spraying in the room, but also to the house manager, who gave us a bugspray bomb! Tomorrow we just have to detonate it and stay out for a couple of hours and it should be done! xD

Yesterday we also went to a job interview in Luna Park! It was great fun and we have our fingers crossed!!

Hope everyone is doing great back home ^^

Sydney day 2 and 3

Helloooo Peopleeee!!
I feel a little like a VIP with 2 people fixing my hair!

Today we didn’t really have any plans, as we can’t go to the information meeting with the Work and Travel Company before tomorrow… So we went for a walk to see if we could find a travel agency that we had been recommended and… a hairdresser! Oh no!

I hope you like it!

We found a hairdresser very fast and before I knew it, I had short hair! I actually find it quite nice – at least I can see out of my eyes now…

Skyping with my friends on a big screen! xD
Don't worry I only did it to take the picture...!

After a little walking and a little getting lost, we found the travel agency and it was amazing how friendly the woman in there was! We got a lot of nice offers and she kept reducing the price and giving us free tours including surfing lessons and a 2 days kayaking in the rainforest!

A true backpacker's dinner!!

I’m telling you, it’s gonna be AWESOMEEEE!!! I want to see everything, but probably don’t have the money, neither time for it, but when we get a job, we’re definitely going to take the offer!

In the evening we got backback-dinner: Noodles! Only problem... We didn't notice the sign saying "Korea's hottest".
Guess who turned into a fire breathing dragon?! :D

Weird place right? xD

Anyways...
Monday we finally got to the info meeting at WTC! It was really great: A lot of information, free stuff, great offers and very helpfull staff!
Before we knew it, we had an appointment for a job interview and an apartment to move in 2 days later!

Australia is awesome this far! :D

AUSTRALIAAAAAAA

Some of the other backpackers from Denmark
Carina, Martin, Christopher, Laura and Jacob

Now I’m finally here!

It was a long flight, but it was alright, because our luxurious plane had a TV with more than a hundred movies and a lot of games, including TETRIS! Of course I got the highscore of all the passengers 8-)

In Dubai airport

We landed in Dubai to change plane, and we had 3 hours to spend in the airport… in the middle of the night when almost everything was closed.

fancy hats, right?

Luckily I’m not travelling alone, but had the fabulous company of my friend: Martin

weird birds to find everywhere
in the parks

Martin and I went to the same boarding school and have been good friends ever since. In the winter vacation we were on a skiing holiday together, where I told Martin my plans about Australia, and he found it so exciting he decided to join me. Yaaay! :D

Our hostel isn’t quite as I had imagined. The first room I was checked into didn’t have any beds for me.

You can see the Opera House and the bridge
in the background

Then the receptionist told me I could stay in the same room as Martin instead of the 3 snoring strangers in my own room, but he couldn’t move me before the next day, even though they had an empty bed…

The city in the background

Well this morning I moved into the other room, and some of the other participants in the work and travel program from ALOTT will move in tomorrow… slowly the Danish people are taking over!

The parrot!

So! Today we went sightseeing. We walked through a park to get to the Opera House and we saw a parrot!

Maaaaany of them!

We were so excited and had to take a thousand pictures! And then 5 minutes later, we found a group of them sitting in the grass and realised how normal they are.

The Opera House indeed is beautiful! Both from far away and from up close.

Thihi I actually made some noise! xD

We walked around the streets of Sydney and came by a store of didgeridoos. The man in the store let us try them, and was really something else!

With the final permission and a bit of editing I here bring you Martin playing the didgeridoo!

Sooo strong they are!

The last thing I want to say is… Welcome to Sydney:

Madrid day 5

The 5th day we went to Segovia, which is a small town in roman style.

The weather wasn't exactly with us, but it was great to see something different than Madrid.

the aqueduct

We saw the aqueduct running through the town, and a castle that has been the inspiration for the Disney castle!

Walking through a historical place like this somehow makes your footsteps sound different!
A calm atmosphere just surrounds everything ^-^

A church

On the way back we met a car!
We had to stand very close
to the wall :P

closer picture...

I went to see the inside of the castle all by myself, as I was the only one interested enough to pay for it xD
Castle just inspires me, I have to go inside! :P

My castle ^-^

Afterwards we went to another small town that the busdriver recommended, here we saw another castle, but only from the outside, and mostly the gardens.

Another castle (not as beautiful)

We went to a special restaurant to eat dinner together this night. A restaurant with flamenco dancing!

It was amazing to see how fast they could move their feet and right on the beat. I forgot all about my food when they started dancing, so my paella con pollo was cold when i started eating it.

When the flamenco was over we went out to a nice little local bar stuffed with people to enjoy a nice drink before we went to bed.

Flamenco restaurant

The plane flight home was a lot more comfortable, even though I was placed in the middle seat between 2 unknown people.

Madrid is hereby recommended by me!

Madrid day 4

Day 4 was the last day of school!
Here are some pictures of my class and teachers!

We learned to make recepies in spanish, and we taught Espe to make Rød grød med fløde, which is a special danish dish made of strawberries!

After school we went far far away to the countryside where we saw a school for bullfighters. I don't like the sport, I feel very bad for the animals actually.

But I was convinced to join the class, as there were no bulls at the school, and to see and maybe understand why people would do such things.

I was actually surprised about it. While watching the young toreadors between 14 and 20 swinging the pink blanket around to avoid the "bull", I could understand why some people would find it interesting. And when we were encouraged to try it ourselves, I realised how hard it is to do it right! xD
Sorry about the lenght of the video, skip to around the middle, that's the funniest part :P

I am still very much against bullfighting though, but it was a great experience. We also had to interview some of the toreadors, and we only understood about half of what they said, so... akwaaaaaard!!! xD

In the evening we went to a little pub near our hostal to get something to eat. Very cozy ^-^

Madrid day 3

Hehe... Sorry I forgot to update my blog, school and exams took over and then I forgot!
But here the rest of the week will come!

Means: Where is my beer?

Day 3 we went to the school again and I started feeling how my spanish improved!

Afterwards we we sent out in the streets of Madrid to interview random people... in spanish of course!

A city made of pictures from a city.. o.O
Inception! :O

It was a bit akward, but we met some very interesting people on the way - including a couple of young people smoking weed... with the camera on! xD
art..? or grass? o.O

In the evening we went to Reina Sofia, which is a museum of modern art. Not as interesting as I had hoped, but Guernica, the famous painting of Picasso, was quite impressive!

After all this art, Ditte needed a
 little cigarette.

Jamón Ibérico

After the visit on the museum, a little group of students went to eat with our teachers on the best cafe in the city! We got Jamón Ibérico, which is a very special and fine ham made from pigs that only eat acorns!

cheese!!! xD

:D
