When we came to the hostel in Rainbow Beach, the reception had messed up our reservation, so they appologized and gave us a private room instead of an 8 bed dorm, as we had paid for.
We didn't have any objection and we slept like Sleeping Beauties after 2 nights on a bus.
The next day we went to Fraser Island in a car with 6 other people, in a group of 4 cars.
The ferry that took us to Fraser
The weather wasn't the best, it was a bit cloudy, and the water was all murky and too muddy to see all the dolphins and sharks there should have been.
It was fun sitting in a car, driving on the beach with the water licking the wheels and splashing all around us.
Fraser Island was beautiful.
We saw Lake McKenzie, a freshwater lake in the middle of the island, hold together with nothing but sand.
The water was cold and nice, and the sand was the same white "flour" as on the whitsundays.
Luke, our guide
After the lake, we went for a walk in the forest where Luke, our guide, caught a fly and ATE IT!!!
Not the entire fly, just the honey bouble inside it.
I don't feel sorry for the fly... they bite here in Australia, and they are EVERYWHERE!!!
On day 2, I got to try driving the car!
Me driving!!
It was very different, as I had to stay to the left instead of right, as I normally would, and driving in sand is like driving in snow - The car drifts
But it was fun!
We saw a dingo on the way!
A dingo is a wild dog, but it looks very friendly, clean and cute!
Why remove nature, when you can go around it?
We slept in tents inside a "dingo fence", to be safe, as dingoes sometimes attack humans... because they are stupid and drunk!
A Golden Orb Spider eating a fly
Next up were the Champaign Pools.
Why champaign? you may ask.
Because when the waves came over the rocks, they bubbled the water!
Indian Head
The last day we went to see "Indian Head". The only part of the island that's made of rock - the rest is sand.
people on Indian Head
Unfortunately the water was too messy to see sharks and dolphins and manta rays, but the view was still amazing.
The view
Then we went to see the shipwreck.
And "Hangover Creek", named after all the hangover backpackers coming there in the morning after their party.
You walk to the top of the creek and lie down in the clean water and it will take you all the way to the bottom.
We saw a dead whale... the remains of it.
The smell was so terrible we had to run away!
Martin Dingo Slayer!! xD
Lake Wagga.
We saw a lot of catfish here!
To get there we had to cross a "dessert"
We came back to Rainbow Beach to live music at the bar, and a nice bed to sleep in.
