Rockhampton

There was no bus stop, but we had 4 local's word,
that the bus would stop here

Martin and I waited from 10 in the mornign to 12 in the middle of the night to catch the bus to Rockhampton, from where we would catch another bus to Roselyn Bay and from there take the ferry to Keppel Island.

We had an agreement with the owner of a hostel there, that we could work for free accommodation!

Our ferry was to depart at 9.15, we just had to catch the bus.

Unfortunately the bus never came.

From 6 in the morning until 9, we waited, but no bus came, even though 3 different should have!
At last, we had to give up hope.

We booked the next Greyhound bus, at 2am! Just Perfect... an entire day on a gas station in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.

Mercure Capricorn Resort Yeppoon,
luxury for rich people!

That was until we met Roger.
Roger is the nicest man we've met in Australia so far. When he heard about our misfortunate situation, he saved our day by taking us on sightseeing in Rockhampton!

Church near the beach  at the resort

Suddenly the waiting time was shortened by hours and we saw some beautiful sceneries, a luxury hotel, a church, "The Singing Ship" and Roselyn Bay, from where we should have gotten on the ferry. He even bought us dinner that night!

A lookout on the way.

Roger saved our day, and gave us a day that we will always remember, a tour no other backpacker has been on, and of course we got a new friend.

Roselyn bay, where we should have been on the ferry
Causeway lake

At the Causeway lake kiosk, Roger told us they make the best fish and chips in the world.

Of course we couldn't miss that!

And it really was a good one.

The singing ship at Emu Park.
It was built in honour of Captain Cook and it is built from organ pipes, and therefore "sings" when the wind is blowing!

St. Poul's Anglican Cathedral in Rockhampton where Roger plays the organ.

We were dropped off at the gasstation at 9pm and the last couple of hours were over in a rush, and we could fall asleep on the bumpy bus while we moved towards our next destination: Rainbow Beach.
